The American Legion Post 175
HONOR FLIGHT NETWORK
Mission
The mission of Honor Flight is to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
The Honor Flight Network is a national network of independent Hubs working together to honor our nation’s veterans with an all-expenses paid trip to the memorials in Washington, D.C., a trip many of our veterans may not otherwise be able to take. Participation in an Honor Flight trip gives veterans the chance to share this momentous trip with other veterans, to remember friends and comrades lost, and share their stories and experiences with each other.
The Honor Flight Network is currently serving veterans who served from World War II to the Korean War and through to Vietnam. We also serve catastrophically ill and injured veterans from all service eras.
To participate in an Honor Flight, please visit the Old Dominion Honor Flight web page.
Feedback from a previous Mission:
Jim,
We wanted to pass along the profound impact of our crews being present at the Ice Cream Social last month. Thank you for the invitation and especially for the honor of helping with the event itself. We look forward to supporting the next one and the many to follow.

Chief,
TK 413 attended the ice cream social for the honor flight. I know from previous experience you and Hanover fire support the mission, attend, and participate as much as possible. This was my first time participating in the follow up social after the honor flight. We have been shown such gratitude and appreciation in the past, but the setting today allowed us to see them honored by name one at a time. We got to see one of our own, Mr. Newell honored. After the event they opened the floor for the veterans to speak if they would like. To see a man that has gone to war stand up and barely be able to speak out of emotion and gratitude was a hard thing to see but was wonderful to witness. The signs that A shift made for their homecoming were there on display today. Hanging the flag, making signs, and just showing up is such a small thing but they truly appreciated it. I am sharing this experience and recommending that we continue to support the honor flight homecoming and I think it would be a big benefit for more to attend the social event and get this same experience. I have had interactions from these event that I won’t forget. Multiple people there were fighting back tears while the veterans spoke. Again, I know we support these events, but it had enough impact on me I felt the need to express the importance of giving people the opportunity to see this side of things. Thank you for the opportunity to attend.
Thanks,
David Pitts
